Example Programmes

It’s important to understand what you will do while you’re here learning English with us, and why you’re doing it, so let’s look at some example programmes.

Below are some typical programmes for different levels of students with varying reasons for learning English.  In every case we built a programme completely to match their needs:

Elementary Level Student – example programme

Reason for learning: The student needs English for their work in Human Resources in a multinational company

Schedule chosen: One-week course; 09:00am-16:30pm every day (‘Compact’ Total Immersion®); including lunch with an instructor

Programme: To complete Essential English Level 2 (A2.1)

Benefits:

  • Confidence, speaking skills, accuracy, and vocabulary knowledge all improve
  • The student can now handle simple conversations with work colleagues from abroad and follow meetings about work-related issues, asking for clarification when needed
  • Having lunch with an instructor gives the student lots of extra practice time and interaction with other people out in the real world, therefore ‘activating’ the language learned in the classroom
  • Finishing at 16:30pm allows the student to answer work emails before going back to the homestay for dinner and chat with the hosts
Pre-Intermediate Level Student – example programme

Reason for learning: The student needs English for their work as a Sales Manager for a company with international clients

Schedule chosen: Two-week course; 09:00am-12:45pm and 14:15pm-16:30pm every day (Full Day ‘Crash Course’)

Programme: To complete Essential English Level 4 (A2.3) with some supplementary work on Giving Presentations and Writing Emails

Benefits:

  • Confidence, speaking skills, accuracy, and vocabulary knowledge all improved
  • The student can now give product presentations to clients from abroad with confidence, as well as answering questions the clients have
  • Emailing is now easier and the student has a list of invaluable reference phrases to help
  • The student knows how to continue improving as has been given advice and materials
Intermediate Level Student – example programme

Reason for learning: The student needs to travel and attend sales meetings with both colleagues and clients

Schedule chosen: Three-week course; 09:00am-18:00pm every day (Total Immersion®); including lunch with an instructor

Programme: To complete General Business II (B2.1) and Berlitz Meetings and Presentations, with extra work on Social Situations

Benefits:

  • Confidence, speaking skills, accuracy, and vocabulary knowledge all improved
  • The student now feels assured that they can run a meeting in English – whether with colleagues or with clients
  • The student is better equipped to socialise with clients – an area that was difficult before (the student’s technical English was very good before but general English competency was lacking)
  • Having lunch with an instructor gives the student lots of extra practice time and interaction with other people out in the real world, therefore ‘activating’ the language learned in the classroom and enabling some interesting discussions to be had over lunch with different instructors
  • The student knows how to continue improving as has been given advice and materials
Upper-Intermediate Level Student – example programme

Reason for learning: The student needs to complete a proposal as applying for a PhD at a local British University

Schedule chosen: Three-week course;  09:00am-12:45pm every day (Half Day: Mornings)

Programme: To complete Essential English Level 8 (B2.1) with supplementary work on English for Academic Purposes, looking particularly at writing and speaking skills

Benefits:

  • Confidence, writing and speaking skills, accuracy, and vocabulary knowledge all improved
  • The student is now reassured that they will be able to complete the proposal and attend university interviews in English
  • Finishing at lunchtime enables the student to practise writing the proposal, and to do further research into their academic subject area
  • The student knows how to continue improving as has been given advice and materials
